Fountain Spray Art & Literary Magazine of Georgian Court University Wins the Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Award

Congratulations: Naima Towns, Blake Lucas, Baileigh Rosenthal, Belynnda King, Thomas Sanchez, Brianna Briggs, Molly Thamrong, and Mahoganie Ortiz!

Fountain Spray Art and Literary Magazine from Georgian Court University, has been recognized as an EXCELLENT magazine by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE).

This year, schools in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and six countries nominated 456 student magazines. Magazines from middle school, high school, and higher education were welcomed for the 2025 contest.

The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.  Schools in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, US territories, Canada, and American schools abroad are eligible to nominate magazines.

Fountain Spray is the official Art and Literary Magazine of Georgian Court University. The magazine is student-led and constitutes student members who desire to put their creative and editorial abilities as well as leadership and collaboration qualities into action. The student board strives to offer a platform in which current students, faculty, and staff can get the recognition they deserve for their generated works and pieces. Fountain Spray works to encourage individuals to express their true selves and creative capabilities by showcasing the unique creativity of the present GCU community.

Fountain Spray is always open to new team members to join and work together as a group to create the yearly issue and host special events during the school year including the yearly issue Launch Party. The various Fountain Spray Board student positions include Editor-In-Chief, Managing Editor, Art Director, Designer, User Engagement Coordinator, and Art and Literary Editor. Student Editorial Board Members are given the opportunity to develop and expand their editing, writing, design, marketing, publishing, collaboration, innovation, and leadership skills. Further, credit is offered by registering for EN299 Practicum.

Each issue that Fountain Spray publishes is offered in print and digital form. While the print version is composed of submitted and selected works of writing and artwork, the digital version additionally provides current members of the GCU community the opportunity to submit videos of them singing or dancing to display their talent.
